Market Bosworth Lionesses U13s 0 – 2 Epworth Forest Bears U13s

The last few match reports have read more like goal sheets, after three comprehensive wins on the trot for The Bears. However, this week they faced a much tougher task away at league leaders Bosworth.

Bears were depleted with three players out injured and two unavailable. It was left to a bare eleven to go out and take on Bosworth. The away side started energetically, doing all they had been asked of by their coach Andy. They worked really hard and most of the play was in and around Bosworth’s box.

Zarah, Kiah and Lacey controlled the midfield and Laila showed great energy and determination up front, buzzing around their defence like a wasp.

It took until the 30th minute for Bears to capitalise, but after some good saves by the Bosworth goalie, Laila broke the deadlock. Dribbling it in after an initial save by their keeper.

It was 1-0 at the break and just after half time Kiah rattled bar with a powerful effort.

The hard work in midfield continued and Jasmine kept their speedy number 9 under wraps. Mia had another, solid, no nonsense performance too, with some strong clearances and Bella also showed an increasingly confident performance, with some lovely passes and tackles.

The defining moment though, came 13 minutes into the 2nd half with a sublime one handed, waist height save from Kearna! The Bears keeper hadn’t had too much to do so far, so to show such agility and reflexes was admirable. A goal here could have turned the game on it’s head.

Priya and Gracie put real shifts in out wide, making some good runs and hearty challenges and Poppy looked back to her strongest hassling and tackling.

Bosworth continued to come searching for a goal, but the defence stood strong and it was Bears who went on to score in the last minute. A rocket of a goal from Zarah, hit from the edge of area and looping in over the keeper’s head to seal a big 3 points and put Bears joint top with a game in hand.

The hard work is no where near done but The Bears are now in control with 5 games to go.

Player of the Match was Kearna for a superb and crucial save.
