Match review
Our 3rd league game of the season and we were hoping for our 3rd straight win! Away at Rugby Town on 3G, the weather was warm and we were ready. The message was clear from the coaches, play our football and to bring intensity.
The game started and in the first minute we’d made an immediate break through with Bella scoring her 5th of the season after being played in by Prim. This puts Bella joint top goal scorer after 3 games
Prim was creator again, drawing a foul in the box to be awarded a Penalty, our second penalty in 3 games. Niah stepped up to Coolly slot home into the bottom left corner, Niah’s first goal of the season.
Things calmed down from the frantic start, but the girls continued to get the ball wide and get in behind their defence. Through tenacious play came our 3rd and Alice’s 3rd of the season, when the ball fell kindly and Alice released a shot with venom which the keeper had no chance. 3 nil.
Again another calmer spell followed, but Epworth were never really troubled, when the ball did find its way through, Evanie dealt with it calmly, and quickly got us moving again. Evanie always talking providing constant support! 2 clean sheets so far!
In the spirit of first goals of the season, up stepped Lillie, with a typical Lillie finish, cool, clean and powerful, Assisted by Poppy G
It took just one minute for Lillie to add her second of the season, this time the assist coming from Willow!
HT 5-0
Into the second half and a much quieter start than the first. It took the girls a little while to establish the tempo again but 8 minutes in, Poppy G pounced on a loose ball and converted home.
It was now over to Orla, Epworths joint top scorer, with two goals in just 3 mins, assisted by Poppy G and Bella, two calm and composed finishes after strong runs down the wing. 8 nil.
The game had now found a much slower tempo, with both sides accepting what the outcome was to be…. But there were more goals to come from Epworth Forest.
Having worked tirelessly throughout and having just seen a 22 yard free kick sail narrowly over, Emmie linked up with Bella and slotted a right footed short into the bottom corner. A ice cold finish.
Epworth were not done, with Franki (C) fouled 24 yards out, the ball was handed to Elodie to step up and take the free kick, and boy did Elodie take it. A rocket followed and the keeper stood no chance
A great way to round off a solid performance with another first goal of the season for Elodie.
Every member of the Epworth outfield squad has now scored, and nearly all with an assist to their name too. This is some Achievement just 3 games in for the Tigeresses.
There were lots of votes for a number of the team for the Parents player of the match (POTM) but the player taking the trophy home was Epworth’s Emmie – solid performance capped off with a goal. Well done.
