Glenfield United Vixens U13s v Epworth Forest Bears U13s

The penultimate game of the season took Bears to Glenfield for the reverse of last week’s fixture.

There was a record crowd of 41 there to watch top side Bears take on 3rd placed Glenfield.

Glenfield sitting 4 points behind Bears but with 2 games in hand.

It was a tense start for Bears, who were more than aware of how important the game was.

They dominated possession but with no clear cut chances until the 30th minute when Jasmeen followed in on a long range effort by Zarah which the keeper failed to get control of.

With the 1-0 lead, Bears were able to continue their domination with the pace of twins Priya and Jasmeen down either side too much for the Glenfield defence to handle.

After half time, the home team came out clearly fired up and being more physical, but Bears stood firm.

Mia was back after illness, and she was solid at the back to the frustration of the Glenfield attack.

Kearna made the few saves required of her and distributed the ball well to keep Bears on task.

Khiah, Zarah and Lacey again worked hard in midfield and while Laila and Liv were tireless upfront, they were unable to capitalise further.

The minutes ticked by and it was a nervy end to the game as Glenfield realised it was now or never.

In the dying seconds they put a shot just over the bar but it wasn’t to be and Bears took the win.

It all goes to the last game for Bears, who need to win next week at Nuneaton in order to finish top.

Wigston can share the honours if they win all their 3 games in hand.

POTM went to Jasmeen for a hardworking display and the goal that won the game
