A massive well done to the u13 Bears who have won the league this weekend.

Nuneaton Borough u13s v Epworth Bears u13s

The final game of the season took the Bears away to Nuneaton, knowing 3 points would be enough to finish top and if Wigston dropped points against Glenfield the trophy would be theirs and not shared.

Just 5 minutes in Priya struck a long range effort into the top corner. This settled the nerves for players and parents alike. On 9 minutes Zarah had an effort pushed onto crossbar by the capable Nuneaton keeper. However, in the 16th minute a perfectly positioned low cross by Thea A was slotted home by Lacey. 8 minutes later Lacey had another effort saved by keeper. Then Zarah scored a third on the stroke of half time.

Just after the break Laila thundered forward and smashed home number 4. By then news of Glenfield’s win over Wigston, the only team who could catch Bears, was filtering through.

Liv’s tireless performance paid off as she made it 5-0. Khiah was ever the calming influence in midfield, continually selecting the right pass at the right time.

With just 10 minutes to go Nuneaton got one back. With a comfortable lead Jasmine was pressing forward, hoping to get in on the goal action, her chance was thwarted but Jasmeen hit home making it 6.

Mia and Jasmine stood firm at the back, as they have all season. Kearna was solid once again between the posts and Gracie Mae worked tirelessly, with a performance as gutsy as ever.

With 4 minutes to go Ellie came on as sub, after a lengthy lay off, due to a leg fracture. A deserved moment, for all she contributed in the early part of the season.

A confident performance, which epitomises the Bears growth as a team this season. The final whistle saw celebrations as they knew the title was theirs.

POTM was shared by the girls, who have all played their part in this season’s success!
