Epworth Forest Tigresses – Rugby Borough Lionesses
It was the first game of the season today for Epworth Forest u12s against Rugby Borough Lionesses, playing in the u13 league. Moving to 11-a-side it was always going to be a challenge, but the girls stood up to it in great fashion, playing some nice football on a temporary pitch, while waiting for Holmes Park to be ready.
After early pressure Emmie opened the scoring with a lovely first time powerful finish from Bella’s cross. Continued pressure resulted in a corner and after a bobble in the box it fell nicely for new captain Franki to calmly slot home. From 2-0 up we quickly found ourselves behind after three very well taken strikes from Rugby’s star player. But the girls turned it around before half time with a brilliant strike from Bella cutting in from the right and shooting from distance, and then Orla following in her own shot that was saved well by the keeper initially.
We started the second half with the same pace and physicality as the first, controlling the game nicely, and creating more good chances, getting the ball out wide and spreading the play. Willow, who always looked dangerous running with the ball, got our fifth goal with an accurate strike from Bella’s pass. Prim got on the scoresheet next after a good run down the left and cross in from Heidi. Finally, Bella completed the scoreline with her brace to top off a comfortable win.
Shout outs to Evanie, Bella, Navae and Poppy M, who all made their league debuts for us today.
Thanks and well done to Rugby Borough Lionesses for a good game, with a particular mention for their keepers, who did very well to keep the score down.
