First away match of the season for the U12 Tigresses today. With a full squad available the girls were facing newly promoted Leicester City Ladies, playing on the full size 3G in the sunshine.
The girls started with energy and confidence and the first goal came within a few minutes, with Willow slotting the ball calmly past the keeper after a nice pass from Poppy G. More attacks followed with Poppy M making a great run from left back and linking well with Willow to get an effort on goal saved by the keeper. It didn’t take long for the next goal to come, which Poppy G knocked in after Willlow’s shot rebounded off the crossbar. A loose pass straight from kick off was then intercepted cleverly by Willow, whose speed took her towards goal and her second goal of the day.
The girls were relentless in their attacks and were unlucky not to score after a nicely worked corner resulted in a good shot from Emmie. It wasn’t long before the next goal came however, when Orla finished off an attack assisted by Prim after a good initial run by Willow. Emmie got a well deserved goal next, after it opened up for her after a fumble by the keeper. Alice was soon on the scoresheet, turning her player after receiving the ball from Poppy Gs throw in and creating space to shoot from the edge of the area. Alice then slotted the ball through for Bella to run onto and she shot well giving the keeper no chance. Two more goals followed before halftime with Alice firing home from Bella’s pass in the box, then Prim getting on the end of Orla’s pass.
Although not put under masses of pressure, every time the ball came into our own half Elodie and Navae in central defence were calm and composed and played the ball around well to create more openings for attacks.
The second half brought lots of changes to test the girls out of position, which they stood up to in great fashion. Leicester City Ladies came out with more determination and were harder to break down initially, but a loose goal kick was soon picked up by Bella who fired home her second of the match. Navae got on the scoresheet next with a tap in after a shot come cross by Emmie. It was then Poppy M who grabbed her first of the season, getting past a few defenders after a dinked ball over from Alice.
A change in keepers came for the last ten minutes with Alice replacing Evanie so she could get some pitch time, and she made the most of it with some great tackles and getting forward well. The girls played some lovely football, with Elodie in midfield now showing nice footwork and measured passes. Three more goals came before the full time whistle, with Emmie slotting home in the bottom left corner, then Orla getting on the end of a Poppy M cross and finally Heidi rounding off the scoring from a Prim assist.
